Water Consumption

How much water do you drink? If you don’t know it’s probably not enough. If you are not drinking enough water, your nutrition plan will without question be much less effective in transforming your body than if you were drinking enough. In diet, Water is maybe the single most important component in losing fat and keeping it off! Yes…the most important. Water is not only a natural appetite suppressant, but it actually helps the body metabolize stored fat. When the body does not have a good supply of water to draw from to perform required physiological tasks, it will draw water from inside the bodies cells, including fat cells, in order to perform the desired tasks. Any fat stores in the body that are drawn on for water, are less likely to be mobilized and burned off as energy, resulting in increased fat stores over time if you were to remain in a constantly dehydrated state.

It seems Piriformis Syndrome is becoming more and more to blame for failure of proper movement execution. Piriformis syndrome is caused by local trauma and results in things such as adhesions, anatomic peculiarities such as the common peroneal nerve passing through the muscle and vascular issues due to direct compression such as sitting on your wallet. Some signs and symptoms include SI joint, butt, groin, hip and leg pain. Typically, there is tenderness below the posterior pelvis. There are a few methods to assess this so I’m going to tell you some of the easier ways.

Take a Break!!

We have all heard the saying that “nothing lasts forever.” And it’s true…kind of. Vacations always come to an end, summer flings come to an end before they even get started, and unfortunately for millions of us out there, the last Harry Potter book will be released in a few short weeks. Yeah that’s right, I read Harry Potter.

Kevin Needs to Rant (Thanks for Listening)

Posted by Kevin Larrabee On June - 25 - 2007

By: Kevin Larrabee

This is a subject that I am beginning to get really accustomed to.

So your friend or family member comes up to you and asks a few questions about fitness or nutrition because, “you are a healthy person.” Wait. Let me go on a side rant first. I get called a “health nut” a lot. By family by friends, harassed for eating properly and exercising. What the F***. Seriously you are going to tease me about this? HA!! Oh, that’s OK. Hearing, “Kevin won’t eat this or that because it isn’t a salad.” What the F***!?!? Salad? No I am not eating eat because it is the equivalent of to putting crude oil in your Ferrari, instead of 93 octane! Is it just me?

We all know how nice it is to get outside for some of out physical activity after those colder months, so let me just cut to the chase. Whether you have kids or not, the bottom line is that there are FANTASTIC options for training outside the gym. Go alone for some time in the fresh air, but don’t think you cannot do this if you have children to take along. This is perfect for them as well! Kids make “great weights”. I put my 40 lb daughter on my back for my pushups for a tremendous exertion. While I do not need her for my workout, she simply plays! Choose exercises that require little or no weight for maximal effort. Read on!

Questioning “Fact”

Posted by Kevin Larrabee On June - 22 - 2007

By Jimmy Smith, CSCS

I typically never accept anything that is told to me in this industry as fact; I always need to look deeper. My biggest question mark is the idea that we need fast acting post workout carbs immediately following training. I have the books and I’ve looked at the science behind fast acting carbs mixed with protein and amino acids. Most people point out that fast acting carbs “shuttle” amino acids into the muscle cell faster and that we need to fully replenish our glycogen stores post workout. For physique purposes, I feel we don’t need fast acting carbs. Read the rest of this entry »
