Q&A with Cassandra Forsythe

  • The idea that women won’t become “muscle bound” with heavy training due to physiology is starting to gain more popularity but here in the UK it is still difficult to motivate women past that mindset. Do you use any other tips or motivational points besides the testosterone factor to encourage women to lift heavy? – Jon
  • I heard that there are going to be a lot of similarities between the two books (NROL). Could you highlight the main differences, and possibly expand on them? (Natalia)
  • I’m so glad to have Cass back on The FitCast (I’m a big fan!). I’m excited about NROL for Women and I’m wondering if the workouts are set up so that one can do them at home, or if a gym is required. I’ve also found that I lose weight and stay satisfied longer on a low carb diet (~10% calories from carbs). How is the meal plan set up in the book? Is this a book specifically for women looking to get cut or women looking to lose weight -and- learn how to get cut? I ask because I have about 25 pounds of fat to drop and I’m hoping this book will help me do that! Thanks so much! –Kim
  • Is there any new information/research that has you reconsidering any of your current views on health, training, or nutrition? – Varner
  • I am Deepak (D-pack) from Australia. thanks for the great show I have been listening to it since episode 2 and it is still as good as ever. Cass I would like to know what has been added to the diet section of NROL for women … like how much difference is there between a guys and girls nutrition when it comes to training ? Secondly apart from amazon (which does not let me use paypal) where can I buy this book.
  • What is next for you Cass?

Why I Use Turbulence Training During the Holidays

Posted by Kevin Larrabee On December - 19 - 2007

Right now I am using Turbulence Training Workouts over my winter break, and here is why.

I love Craig Ballantyne’s Turbulence Training workouts because they are quick and most importantly, effective. My weapon of choice for my winter break from school is Turbulence Training: Fat-Loss, more precisely, 2K3, which is included in the manual. The 2K3 workout is my favorite workout in TT: FFL. I always leave the gym feeling strong, and with a good pump (who doesn’t like that). Also by combining the great weight training workout with intervals, I am able to take a break from eating 90% clean, and have some fun over my winter vacation.

I did bump it up to 4 weight training sessions per week, and swap between starting with a Deadlift or a Squat on my lower body days, but overall it is pretty much the same. This allows me to be in and out of the gym in about 50 minutes (including intervals) and get back to relaxing for a little bit. I think I deserve a little bit of a break after getting a 3.5 GPA this semester.

I even have my friend who is home for vacation as well doing Turbulence Training for the first time and he LOVES it! And to be honest he needs it as those college pounds were beginning to stack up.

Avoid the extra holiday weight this season, pick up Turbulence Training for Under $40, or do what I did back in the day and get the full package for $99 which comes with 5 manuals!

  • (For Jen) Hello Fitcast,I have a question regarding coaching women to help them reduce their body fat levels. I have noticed that in the first couple weeks of a program, everything goes according to plan and the women drop 3-5 pounds. But then when “that time of the month” happens and the women start their menstrual cycles, abdominal pain and mood swings prevent them from being able to exercise with any intensity. Do you have any advice on helping women to continue to lose weight over the course of their menstrual cycle? Perhaps Jen would be the best person to answer this question.

Thanks guys. Love the show, keep it up.

Q&A

  • Mike,I’m trying to do some prehab work and brink up my weak rotators so I’m doing side lying abduction raises. My right side is considerably weaker than my left and it fails in the middle of a set very quickly (not like normal when you grind out reps). What do you suggest to remedy this discrepancy and how can I bring up my work part, if it aggravates me to train it?

    Thanks,
    Elliot

  • Jimmy- Have you read the latest study on Stevia in regards to their results: “The results showed that treatment with stevioside generates lesions in peripheral blood, liver, brain and spleen cells in different levels, the largest effect being in liver. Therefore, these undesired effects must be better understood, once the data present here point to possible stevioside mutagenic properties.” What are your thoughts on Stevia now? -Adam

Interview with Mike Boyle

  • My question is about the CNS experiment Mike talked about a bit last time he was on. I also purchased his CNS DVD. He spoke how he had tried some new methods with his athletes this past summer and I wondered what he had gotten for results and what he feel he learned from this experiment? Also how will this effect 2008’s training? -Ray
  • You have said in your articles that one can’t have enough thoracic mobility. I’ve seen techniques outlined to increase t-spine mobility but have yet to come across a dedicated test for it. What are the indicators or tests you use to determine the degree of thoracic mobility in your athletes? What benchmarks do you set for that mobility? Thanks, Mike McChesney
  • In 2008, the gym I work for is launching exercise programs and classes that target the child obesity epidemic. Do you have any advice or resources that could help make this project successful? Any tips on promoting to the community? The age range is 10 – 15 yr. olds -Jimi
  • Can you tell us what StrengthCoach.com is all about, the forum, the articles, and the podcast?
