Destination Abs: Week 10

the-fat-loss-troubleshootBy: Kevin Larrabee, CSCS

It has been ten weeks now since I started this with Leigh Peele. It has been quite a journey. Some ups, some downs. This past week I have been doing great. Yes, I still see the ice cream in the fridge and my family ordering takeout and I want to cheat, but I have stayed strong. Again, as I have mentioned before, much of the willpower to do this has come from the accountability this journal put upon me. I think everyone needs to have some kind of support group or light pressure to stick to the path that will help them achieve their goals. Luckly I have you guys to bitch me out if I do not post my update each week.

I have added one thing to my diet, Miracle Noodles. Danny Verna recommended them to me after I was starving last week. Basically they are glucomannan (plant fiber) made into noodles that you can cook (kind of) and they taste great. Just like real noodles. And they have no caloric value as they are 100% fiber.

Leigh Peele has put together the nutrition portion of this program and I have constructed the training program. If you haven’t read her book The Fat Loss Troubleshoot, you have no idea what you are missing. Leigh has a no bull shit approach when it comes to this stuff. If you are one of those dieters who has smothered the furnace that is your metabolism, Leigh’s book will do the trick to get that fire stoked.

The following pictures are from Day 1, Day 28 (Last day before the 4 week “bulk”), and Day 70 (10 days after bulk/slip up ended)

That’s some good progress Kevin! Good work.

Yes those noodles are shirataki. I ordered some “angle hair” pasta a while back and really like them.

Great work Kevin! Small visual differences along the way have now added up to a BIG difference between days 1 & 70. Keep at it, we’re watching!

i havent tried the glucommanan noodles, but glucommanan powder is amazing too. Add it to oatmeal, clam chowder, grits, any sort of thick soupy food, and it makes it so much heartier. I swear, I eat half the amount of oatmeal and I am twice as full because of the glucommanan. Perfect for a cut. Also, if you just take some glucommanan pills with water about 20-30 mins before you eat, it helps you control your appetite alot.

Congrats on the progress, Kevin! Looks like you’ve definitely added some size on your shoulders and arms – especially forearms in addition to getting leaner. Good work.

Seeing these pictures really puts into perspective what you guys talk about a lot, as well as some of the other podcasts I listen to.

You look great, or greater, or almost great, or something. Personally I’m a fat dude working his way down slowly so I’d kill to look half that good.

But it all really depends on the look you’re going for, and the background you come from.

For me looking like that would be sweet, but if I was going to bother getting that thin, I would rather be more muscular. That’s because I’m just naturally a heavier guy, and I’d rather be heavy muscular than heavy fat, or skinny any day.

It’s going to be pretty exciting the next time you go on a bulking phase. You’ll be able to see where your real weaknesses are when you’re down that low in body fat, and while you’re gaining weight in your next bulk you can really push those areas, add a few pounds of muscle and a few pounds of fat. Then spend some time stripping the fat back off and compare to these photos and see how well you hit your targets.

That’s just freaking exciting if you ask me, and really it should be a great motivation for the future.
