Q: Jason Ferruggia recently tore intervals to pieces. Now they’re no good for fat loss, but steady state cardio is the best and everyone agrees.
Go back a few months and Alwyn Cosgroves Afterburn program is one of the best Fatloss programs out there. Alwyn also states that none of his fat loss programs have steady state cardio in them.
While I understand where Jason is coming from, I now realize how important to filter through the promotional crap to get his actual opinions. Everyones scratching each others backs and selling products, promoting them, even if they disagree…..or so it seems from blogs.
This is just my feelings on the situation, even among the most respected in the industry. I’ve always liked Mikes approach, he says what he knows at the time and admits when something doesn’t work and moves on.

Andrew,
I really am in the middle of the issue. Jason and I actually had this conversation about two weeks for a product of mine then we both blogged about it. To be honest, the fitness industry is very stupid at times and just follows what the latest expert says. People attend a three day seminar then run with whatever was the big idea that weekend. They go onto their blogs or newsletter and start repeating information
That’s where actually training people and doing it yourself comes into play. You see a trend in this industry where certain things become hot topics. Guys like Craig and Alwyn have been talking about the advantages of high intensity cardio for awhile now. Alwyn recently started giving his excellent presentation on the topic and I’m sure people even blogged during it. Attend one of the main seminars coming up soon. Whatever the speakers there talk about, you can be sure that it’ll be spread throughout the industry rapidly.
This is probably the worst part of the industry to me. Everyone just repeats things that someone else says because they are afraid of making a splash or getting made fun of from people who aren’t even man enough to have their real names online. See my article about fruit. Everyone’s a keyboard expert. So when someone “new” like myself comes along, I get thrown in with the group that just repeats shit because I’m not as established.
The whole thing comes down to talking to someone for five minutes really. If you talk to me for five minutes you’ll know how smart I am. People don’t consider it because I suck at internet marketing and don’t have any products out yet.
Personally if you say that “bodybuilders” are juiced that’s why they get the advantages of steady state cardio then I’m done speaking with you. So yes, I agree with Jay and I agree with the high intensity guys. Everything is a tool in the toolbox and no I don’t mean the tools on the online forums.
