This morning I woke up to some bad news. Last night my friend Mike shoot my old room mate and proceeded to turn the gun on himself and end his life.
This, on the last day of school. Finals were over. Mike’s AIM away message is still up, talking about going out for a few drinks.
Mike lived next door to me Freshman year and we hung out just about everyday. From going to get some food at the DC to just lounging around and him kicking everyones ass in Halo 2.
Jason (who was shot) was my room mate freshman year. I wasn’t a huge fan of the kid for multiple reasons, but I still hope he continues to get better. Currently he is in fair condition at the hospital.
We still don’t know much of what happened. I am guessing alcohol and tempers were the culprit. Mike was known for his love of firearms, mostly just bb guns and sling shots like that. I never thought he was capable of this sort of thing. He was really a great kid inside. Every time we hung out we had fun, and he was nothing but nice. to me there were no signs of this kind of action, he was never hostile with me. I don’t want to make assumptions as to what provoked this.
I just want to leave people with this message. Today the world isn’t perfect. We have pollution, we have pointless wars going on, the bee population is plummeting, and everyone isn’t safe anymore. So let everyone you love know that you love them, everyday. Multiple times a day. Cause they may not be there tomorrow. Cherish every minute.
R.I.P. Mike, you were a great friend.
